Step in, sit down, soak

Walk-in tubs in Northwest Arkansas for people who still want the bath

A tub with a door and a built-in seat, for anyone who loves a bath but can't safely step over a tub wall. We'll also tell you straight when a low-threshold shower is the better answer.

Chapter 01

Who a walk-in tub fits, and who is better off with a low-threshold shower

Twist & Spout's own answer to "would a walk-in tub be better?" is that it's impossible to say without meeting you and assessing your needs. For some people a walk-in tub is clearly the better choice. For others a low-threshold shower is the smarter pick, and you'll hear that from them too.

The tub tends to fit the person who loves baths and has come to dread the high threshold, since stepping over a tub wall can be a dangerous feat when mobility is limited. The shower has its own case: a low entryway, grab bars, convenient storage and seating options cover many of the same safety needs.

That's why an in-home consultation comes before any product talk. A consultant sees the bathroom, the person who will use it and how they move, and the recommendation follows from that.

What a walk-in tub actually is

In plain terms, it's a bathtub with a door built into it, so there's no wall to climb over. Eric Barker's shower replacement guide describes the category as a spa experience at home, with options such as jets, heaters and sometimes color-light therapy.

Twist & Spout describes the benefits this way: step-in access, ergonomic seating and leak-resistant construction for safer bathing. The options can be tailored to users of all ages and mobility levels, which is worth remembering when the person bathing and the person paying aren't the same person.

Because the right setup depends on who's using it, the choices get settled in the consultation, not from a brochure.

Chapter 03

Install, warranty and a waterproof system

Every walk-in tub system is waterproof and installed with a lifetime labor warranty, on top of whatever warranty the manufacturer provides. A tub with a door is the kind of product where leak-resistant construction and careful installation matter most.

The same people stand behind it as on a shower job: one project manager from the first call, Twist & Spout's own in-house install crews, and floors and finishes protected under the Home Guard Protection Plan. If demolition turns up rot or water damage in the wet-area walls or floor, the Price Locked Against Rot guarantee covers the repair at no additional cost.

Your consultant confirms the schedule for your specific layout. When the work is done, you walk through the finished bathroom and approve it before the job counts as complete, and a service issue gets a response by the next business day.

Two good answers

Walk-in tub or low-threshold shower?

Both are about safer bathing at home. They solve it in different ways, and the right one depends on the person.

A walk-in tub tends to fit when

You love a bath and don't want to give it up. The trouble is the step over the tub wall, and for some people that step is the most dangerous move in the house.

A door in the tub removes the climb, and the built-in seat gives you somewhere steady to settle. Jets and heaters are among the options, so the bath can also be where you soak and warm up.

A low-threshold shower tends to fit when

Getting clean safely matters more than soaking. A walk-in shower is simply a normal shower with a low step or curb, and a low entryway, grab bars, convenient storage and seating can all be added.

Some low-threshold showers can include a ramp for wheelchair access. Most shower installs take two to three days in your home, and the FastBath program can shorten the whole project when in-stock products fit.

The only way to know is to measure

A walk-in tub is a fixed answer to a question that has several. The consultant looks at your bathroom, the person bathing, and what they find hard today and might find hard in five years. Then you get a straight recommendation.

To see what else can make a bathroom safer, read about safe and accessible bathrooms, or look at the standard bathtub replacement if a regular tub is still right for you. When you're ready, send a message about your bathroom and the office will set up a free in-home visit.
