The leak-proof shower

Walk-in showers in Northwest Arkansas, built so water has nowhere to hide

Grout-free wall systems, bases and walls cut to your opening, glass that fits, and a transferable lifetime warranty behind the leak-proof promise.

Chapter 01

Grout is where tile showers fail

Tile and grout are porous. Over the years grout cracks, thins and goes missing, and every gap lets water reach the wall behind the tile. Aubrey Adams lived that story: her old shower had been leaking for over a year and had caused mold damage before she called. Her new one went in without grout, and she says it is easy to clean now. That is the whole case for a grout-free shower in one review.

The wall systems we install are non-porous solid surface: Sentrel, Samuel Müeller and the Onyx Collection. Sentrel is made in the USA and carries a lifetime warranty, and Sentrel and Samuel Müeller together make up the large majority of what our crews install. Water stays on the surface and wipes off, mold and mildew have little to grab, and the surface resists scratching and fading after years of daily use.

We do not repair tile showers, and we do not refinish. When a tile shower leaks or cracks, the waterproofing behind it is likely compromised, and a patch only hides that. A full replacement is how we can stand behind the work for life. Behind the panels goes our DryBoard backer, the corners lock together with our CornerLock 4 system, and every seam is sealed before the door goes on.

Custom sizing: a shower cut to your opening

A kit shower asks your bathroom to change. We size the wall systems and the base to the space you have, whether that is a tight alcove in Springdale or a wide room in Bella Vista. Before anything is ordered, a design consultant does a 30-point measure and inspection and designs the shower with you on the spot, and our project manager comes back to confirm every measurement and selection. We check everything twice on purpose.

Then comes everything that makes the shower yours. Built-in seating and a bench, recessed niches for shampoo and soap, a pony wall with glass above it, shelving, grab bars. The photos below show a taupe shower with a bench and twin niches, and a half-wall shower in black and glass. Your consultant plans where each piece goes, and the crew blocks the wall behind it so it is anchored to wood.

A low-step entry keeps the shower open and easy to enter, and it also leaves room for later changes. If you add a bar or a seat down the road, the wall can already carry it. Two to three days is the usual install, with our in-house crews of Drew, Stephen and Justin doing the work, and the Arkansas Builder License # 48896 behind every job.

Chapter 03

Glass: sliding, hinged or frameless, and why custom glass takes time

We install Fleurco shower doors. Sliding doors suit tight spaces because nothing swings out into the room. Hinged doors open like a regular door, and past roughly 28 to 30 inches of width they usually need a fixed glass panel beside them. A splash panel with an open walk-through works in a large shower where the water stays put.

Frameless glass is the high-end choice: heavy glass, no frame, held by small clips. It has to be measured after the shower is installed, which means a wait of several weeks. Aubrey Adams hit exactly that. Her shower install took our crew three days, not counting the glass, which came from Bentonville Glass and took a while because it was custom. Plan for that gap if you choose frameless, and ask your consultant what the lead time looks like.

Clear glass shows off the shower, frosted gives privacy while letting light through, and textured glass adds a pattern and keeps the room bright. An easy-clean coating cuts down on water spots. Walk-in showers our crews have finished

Four showers, four layouts. Look at the benches, the niches and where the glass stops. For the tub side of the story, see our tub-to-shower conversions.

Tile versus a grout-free system

Tile and grout
Porous, with a grout line every few inches. Grout wears out, and repairing it is slow work: the old grout has to be scraped out with special tools, and the new grout may not bond properly. When it fails, water gets behind the tile.
Grout-free solid surface
Non-porous panels with sealed seams and no grout to fail. A wipe cleans it, mold and mildew have little to hold onto, and the finish comes in looks that read as natural stone. It is the system our crews install most, and the one our shower replacement guide explains in detail.
